We strive to make every dental experience a positive one however there are moments when a little extra help is needed. The Positive Experience Dentistry, or PED as we refer to it, is a new non-narcotic sedation technique. This system was developed out of a profound desire to help the anxious dental patient.
The procedure entails taking a couple of non-narcotic supplement tablets that contain amino acids that are naturally found in common foods such as green tea and turkey.
We will also attach CES (Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation) which is similar to a tins unit that produces stimulation at an extremely low level. The pads are placed behind the ears and you are given a headphone set that plays NeuroAcoustic Music similar to what has been referred to as “elevator music.” And finally we place darkening or “black out” glasses similar to sunglasses on you for the duration of the appointment.
Most patients report a significant reduction in anxiety and feel well rested rather than exhausted after the procedure. In fact they are perfectly able to drive immediately after their dental procedure, unless combined with other sedation methods which restrict patient driving.
The level of safety is far above intravenous or non-intravenous conscious sedation and can be used with most patients. However, it is important for patients to provide information regarding current medical conditions and medications so that our doctors may evaluate and qualify you for the program.
